Passive House Builder Newcastle
Adapt Building
Building Smarter, Healthier Homes
Our journey toward becoming a Passive House builder in Newcastle began with our passion for heritage renovations.
Working on Newcastle’s character homes taught us the importance of quality, durability, and comfort. Those values that naturally evolved into our focus on Passive House and high-performance homes.
The director Ed, completed his Certified Passive House Builder training in 2020. Since then, our team has been dedicated to applying those principles wherever possible. We’re not just inspired by the Passive House philosophy, we’ve put it into practice, building a series of high-performance, energy-efficient homes across Newcastle.
While the energy benefits of Passive House are well known, at its core, it is really a health standard masquerading as an energy standard. Achieving the comfortable, stable temperatures Passive Houses are known for requires all five core principles working together. To result in a energy-efficient, high-comfort, and healthy home.
Our latest project, while not certified, was designed and built to Passive House standards, incorporating all five principles to create a high-performance home that is airtight, comfortable, and sustainable.
We spent years planning with our clients and Designer, we made sure to do it properly.
We took the time to do it right.. we brought the whole team together for a full-day workshop on airtightness, insulation, and sustainable construction.
During construction, we held weekly toolbox meetings on-site to make sure every detail was done correctly, we built hands-on experience into every stage.
That’s how we gained practical experience. we didn’t just study Passive House, we are continuously learning.
Passive House Approach
Airtightness
A tightly sealed external envelope is essential for your home. It maintains a stable indoor temperature, ensuring comfort without draughts or air leaks. Blower door test is often a tool used to measure the airtightness of a building.
Thermal bridge free design
Implementing “thermal bridge free design” can help eliminate thermal bridges, enhancing overall building performance.
Superior windows
High-performance glazing doors & windows improve comfort, reduces noise, and maintains thermal efficiency. They will also be strategically positioned to optimise light and hear.
Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (HVAC, HRV/ERV)
Provides a continuous supply of fresh air without wasting energy. Maintaining a healthier indoor environment.
Quality insulation
Insulation works hand in hand with airtight construction to create a continuous, highly insulated building envelope in Passive House. It minimises heat transfer & ensures consistent indoor temperatures, eliminating cold spots and drafts while reducing the need for active heating and cooling.
